If you like to garden then you have probably thought about getting a greenhouse to let you pursue your gardening hobby throughout the entire year. However, there are so many things to consider as well as products to choose from that it can be down right crazy! Like anything, it takes work and dedication to learn and we can point to our lovely greenhouse and say, “we did that”!

Our New Backyard Additions

I was tired of having a backyard that was dull and flat as a pancake and was overdue and ready for a change. I cannot tell you how wonderful my new backyard is! I was fortunate to be able to hire a landscaping consultant who helped me plan and pick out all the things I wanted in my yard. She was amazing! I was also able to determine, with her help what I could do myself and what I needed someone else to do for me and I was surprised how much I was able to do on my own. I bought, assembled and installed a metal garden arbor all by myself and found I could do a lot of what needed to be done.

However, I did have several levels of decks put in and hired a contractor to do that as well as put up the wooden pergola. There were some things that were beyond me. Once everything was placed, I was able to follow the consultant’s plan and found native plants to fill in the gaps and have ended up with a spectacular yard and garden in the backyard. I have several seating areas and it is a great place to go out and relax after a hard days work at the office.

Loving my Backyard Greenhouse!

I lived in a neighborhood for a long time that had a small community grow house where each family paid for a certain amount of space to house the plants of their choice. Though it was a great experience and I learned a lot from the old timers who knew far more than I did about growing plants in green houses, I have to say that having my own backyard greenhouse has been my ultimate gardening experience.

I love that I have all the space to grow all the vegetables and herbs my family likes to eat and I like to cook with but I also start my annuals and have them ready to plant just as soon as the last frost is out of here. Last year I housed all my patio plants as well as grew a variety of lettuces, spinach and some cabbage year round. My friends were so impressed with my fresh herbs and salads throughout the winter months that I think several of them are considering purchasing their own greenhouses very soon! I, for one, am all for it!
